WCU to present stained glass course
9/2/2008 - Western Carolina University will offer “Learning for Fun: Stained Glass” from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9 through Oct. 21, in the Cordelia Camp Building.
The course will follow the Tiffany method of stained glass, in which each piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil and then soldered.
Each student will complete a project in plain glass and a small panel in colored glass by the end of the course.
Participants will learn safety; techniques for proper cutting, foiling and soldering; simple metal framing; and types of glass, solders and copper foils.
The course is open to beginners and advanced students.
Instructor Moya O’Neal has worked with stained glass for more than 20 years. O’Neal has been an active member of the International Guild of Glass Artists and teaches privately.
Cost for the course is $85. Students also will be expected to purchase their solder, foil, glass, safety glasses and cotton gloves. Other tools will be provided in class.
