Program Description: Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Physical Education is designed to enable students holding degrees other than education degrees to study in selected teaching programs at the graduate or advanced level. Pending satisfactory completion of state-required licensure examinations, the program leads to a recommendation for an advanced license from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.) in Physical Education is designed for individuals with a teaching certificate that seek advance licensure in Physical Education. Pending satisfactory completion of state-required licensure examinations, the program leads to a recommendation for an advanced license from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.) in Physical Education is designed for individuals seeking graduate training in order to teach physical education in community college settings and/or coach varsity sports in higher educational settings. This program also allows the student to choose an area of specialization (e.g., motor behavior, exercise physiology) for pursuing advanced degrees.

Required Standardized Test: GRE General Exam

Minimum Admissions Requirements: Same as the Graduate School

Additional Admissions Criteria: Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation. For the M.A.T. degree, students must hold or be eligible for the North Carolina "A" license in physical education.
