Admission Criteria for Engineering Programs

Admission Criteria for Freshmen

After you are accepted to WCU as a freshman with the request to be in the electrical engineering program, you will be further evaluated by the department. This will include an overall evaluation of high school records and test scores, with particular emphasis placed on success in advanced math and science courses. You may be accepted to one of two tracks:

FENG: Students with acceptable records will be accepted directly as freshman to the Freshman Engineering (FENG) sequence.

PENG: Students needing additional courses before being accepted into the Freshman Engineering Sequence (FENG) will be advised as pre-engineers (PENG).

Admission to an engineering program requires completion of all freshman-year engineering program requirements with grades of C or better. Students in the FENG track must also have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.00 for all courses. Students from the PENG track must have minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 for all courses taken.

Admission Criteria for Transfer Students

All students transferring into the Electrical Engineering program must take the ENGR 199 and ENGR 200 sequence.

Each student will be evaluated by the program director and placed into the FENG or PENG track as described above.

All transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 for all courses taken.
