US Conec - Keeping Up with a Fast-Growing Market
![]()
This maker of optical fiber connectivity products wanted to accelerate product development to take advantage of its fast-growing market. Using UV Polyjet rapid prototyping technology, we created small parts with fine detail and functionality. Our collaboration with US Conec has continued over several projects, and we welcome this ongoing relationship.
Kimmel School engagement efforts were formalized in the Center in 2004. The Rapid Center acts as an interface to initiate and manage engagement opportunities between regional interests and faculty and students. We also engage faculty across campus in interdisciplinary efforts such as adaptive technologies and science entrepreneurship.
What sets us apart from other construction management, engineering and technology colleagues across the country is the type and amount of industry experience of our faculty – a rarity in academia. Faculty and staff experience and knowledge are coupled with our investment in diverse, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to engage in product development from initial concept to manufacturing or structure.
The Rapid Center’s mission is to match the Kimmel School’s expertise and resources to Western North Carolina’s needs by forming effective partnerships to grow the region’s economy, by assisting in generating value-creating jobs and by improving the quality of life for its people.
The vision for the Rapid Center is to be known and respected throughout the region as an innovative, can-do partner and as the primary resource for technical assistance and technology transfer for government, business and industry officials with local economic growth and job creation responsibilities. We hope you will visit us soon and partner with us in this effort! I look forward to working with you to reach our goals of economic transformation and engaged learning.
