5. Is the school/program nationally accredited?

There are two national accrediting bodies for nursing education: NLN-AC and CCNE. A school may be accredited by either or both. All WCU Nursing programs are accredited by CCNE.

6. Where can I find financial aid for going back to school?

  • This website from CFNC offers much good advice and excellent links: http://secure.ncmentor.org/Nursing/financing.asp. Look especially at the Nurse Scholars and NESLP programs.
  • Scholarships also are available through the NC Foundation for Nursing.
  • Graduate programs should have resources to help you explore federal funding like traineeships, particularly if you want to be a full-time student.

  • The CFNC website has some helpful hints at http://secure.ncmentor.org/Nursing/life_management.asp

  • If you are considering an online program, this site includes a quiz to help you decide if you are ready for online study: http://secure.ncmentor.org/Nursing/on_campus.asp
  • If you decide on an online program, the school will provide you with information about the computer and software requirements and may have an optional or required introductory activity. High-speed Internet connection is highly desirable. A family member or friend who is computer-literate is a valuable asset.
