Rahkie Mateen
When she left high school, Rahkie Mateen went out-of-state on a track scholarship. She returned to North Carolina several years later and enrolled at WCU where she switched her focus from physical education to art with a concentration on sculpture.
She has excelled in that field, earning a partial scholarship from the art department and honors in each of the last two years when her work was selected for awards in the annual student art exhibition.
With an interest in teaching at the college level, she is keeping open the option of working for a year as a freelance artist before returning to school for a master's degree. Rahkie graduated in August 2005.
