Application to Professional Education
Students must make application to professional education at WCU by filling out the application form and having their PE faculty adviser sign the application. This form can be obtained from Licensure Specialist Barbara Schade in Killian 219 and must be submitted to Mrs. Schade’s office upon completion. The process for application to professional education is usually discussed in the required EDCI 231 course.
Admission to Professional Education
The student will be fully admitted to professional education upon completion of the following items:
1. Professional Education Interview. Sign-up for the interview occurs when the application for professional education is submitted to Mrs. Schade’s office.
2. Passing scores on Praxis I. Praxis I consists of three tests: Reading, Writing, and Math. This must be done by the end of the junior year. Registration materials are available in the Office of Field Experiences in Killian 228.
3. Grade point average of 2.50 or better. All PE majors must keep an overall GPA of 2.50 or better. The student must pass all “PE” prefix courses with a “C” or better.
Application for Graduation
Students must apply for graduation once they obtain 90 credit hours. To do this, the student must:
- Pay the $30.00 application fee at the Cashier’s Office and obtain a receipt, then
- Bring the receipt to Mrs. Schade’s office to prove payment and complete the gradation application form, then
- Sign up for an appointment with Dr. Dan Grube, Physical Education Program director, to verify final courses and requirements for graduation.
Application for Internship I & II
A full semester prior to beginning Internship I, the student must submit an application for the internship in physical education. Internship materials can be obtained at the informational meeting held at the beginning of each semester. At the beginning of each semester, this meeting is advertised heavily in Killian and Reid Gym. Ken Hunt, director of field experiences, provides information about the internship and application materials at this meeting. The student is required to attend the meeting and meet the deadlines set by Mr. Hunt for submission of the internship application.
Students must be fully admitted into professional education prior to beginning Internship I. Students complete all required coursework prior to beginning Internship II.
